The Yorkshire Coast

The Yorkshire coast stretches from north of Whitby all the way south past Scarborough and on down to the Humber estuary near Hull. We might be biased, but we think the stretch between Staithes, Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay is the most beautiful!

It's a fantastic location for a short break or a longer holiday - and a fishing trip makes a great day out. Whitby is a bustling town, with plenty to see and do. Surrounding Whitby is the dramatic North York Moors National Park, home to all kinds of wildlife, the North York Moors Steam Railway and many picturesque villages and market towns.

Whitby is a great location for walkers and cyclists, with access to the Cleveland Way and the Whitby to Scarborough Cinder Track. Both provide fantastic views of the coastline and as much fresh air as you could need! Whitby is also home to some great pubs and restaurants as well as plenty of amazing holiday accommodation.

Whether you're visiting with family and need plenty of child-friendly activities, or you're looking for a grown-up weekend away, Whitby can't be beaten.

Whitby really is the jewel in the crown of the Yorkshire coast, but the rest of North Yorkshire has a lot to offer too. Have a look at the gallery below to see some of the attractions within a short drive of Whitby.

Whitby Abbey

Whitby has a long and interesting past. It is home to the historic Whitby Abbey as well as St Mary's church - both of which overlook the town from their location on the east cliff. If you're interested in learning about Whitby's history, book a tour with Whitby Storyteller.

York is just over an hour's drive from Whitby and is well worth a visit if you're coming to Yorkshire. With its ancient Minster and city walls, York is a great location for a day out. Between Whitby and York you'll find Malton and Pickering, both traditional market towns with much to offer.

The villages of Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay are to the north and south of Whitby respectively and are picturesque fishing villages. Both destinations in their own right, the Yorkshire coast is a fantastic location for walkers, cyclists and those who want to slow down and relax!
